MyChron analysis

MyChron data analysis software, in your browser

LapViz Studio is a free data analysis software for the AiM MyChron 5 and MyChron 6: your .xrk and .xrz files open in the browser of a PC, a Mac or a Chromebook. Compare your laps, read the revs and the temperatures, then replay the session in 3D on the satellite view of the circuit. No account, nothing to install.

What LapViz reads in a MyChron file

The file as the MyChron recorded it, read by your browser.

  • Laps and sectors timed by the MyChron, kept as they are
  • Revs, water and exhaust temperatures, depending on your sensors
  • GPS position and speed, lateral and longitudinal G
  • The compressed .xrz files as well as the .xrk files

Analyse your laps against your best one

The comparisons a driver needs after a session.

  • Your laps overlaid, with the laps of other sessions, and the delta
  • Revs and speed by distance: where you lift, brake and get back on the throttle
  • Sectors, rolling best and ideal lap
  • Your line on the satellite view, colored by speed or by delta

Compare with a team-mate

Two drivers, two loggers: put their best laps side by side.

  • Laps of several files in the same chart, whatever their logger
  • The faster driver as a ghost in the 3D replay
  • Workspaces shared with your coach as a read-only link (free account)

From the MyChron to LapViz

LapViz does not connect to the MyChron: download it as usual, then open the file anywhere.

  1. Download the sessions of your MyChron with Race Studio 3 on a Windows PC, as usual
  2. Take the .xrk (or .xrz) file in the data folder of Race Studio 3, or ask your team for it
  3. Open LapViz Studio on any computer, a Mac included, and drop the file
  4. Choose your laps: overlay, delta, channels and map
  5. Drop the same file on the 3D replay page to watch your laps against your best one
  6. Create a free account to keep the session and appear on the leaderboard of the circuit

LapViz Studio

The analysis in your browser: the file is read on your computer and is not uploaded.

  • Your laps overlaid, from several sessions and drivers, with the delta
  • Every channel of the logger, by time or by distance
  • Sectors, rolling best and ideal lap, track map on the satellite view
  • On-board video synchronized with the data

3D replay

Your laps on the satellite view of the circuit, like in a racing game. The file is converted to be replayed, not kept.

  • Every lap against the ghost of your best lap
  • A second file as the ghost: race against a team-mate or a rival
  • Chase, onboard and helicopter cameras, speed, revs and live gap
  • The sound of the engine, following the revs of the session

Keep your sessions with a free account

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free software to analyse MyChron data?

Race Studio 3, from AiM, is free but runs on Windows only. LapViz Studio is a free alternative for the analysis that runs in any browser, a Mac included: lap overlay, delta, channels, sectors and a 3D replay of the session.

How do I open an XRK file without Race Studio, on a Mac?

Open LapViz Studio in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox and drop the .xrk file: it is read in the browser, nothing is installed. Race Studio 3, on a Windows PC, is still needed to download the files from the MyChron.

Which MyChron models are supported?

The MyChron 5 and MyChron 6, and the other AiM loggers that record .xrk or .xrz files. The older .drk files are converted by LapViz when you open or import them.

Are my MyChron files uploaded?

Not by the Studio: the file is read on your computer. The 3D replay converts the file on the LapViz server to replay it, without keeping it. A file is only stored when you import it into your account.

Can I compare my MyChron with the Alfano or the Unipro of a friend?

Yes. The Studio overlays the laps of files of different brands, and the leaderboards of the circuits gather every laptimer.

Why are some lap times different from the MyChron?

The laps of the MyChron are kept as they are. On a circuit known by LapViz, the laps are also calculated from the GPS for the leaderboards: these can differ by a few hundredths.

Is it free?

Yes. The Studio and the 3D replay are free and work without an account; the LapViz account is free too.
