About LapViz
What is LapViz?
LapViz is a lap timing and data analysis platform for karting, cars and motorbikes, made for track days and training. It times laps with a phone, reads the files of most data loggers and lap timers, and lets drivers compare their laps with their own sessions and with the other drivers of each circuit.
The apps and tools
What each part of LapViz does, and where it runs.
- lapviz.com: a free account keeps your sessions, analyses them corner by corner and ranks them on the leaderboard of each circuit
- LapViz Studio: telemetry analysis in the browser, on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS, also offline; the files are read on your computer
- 3D replay: your laps on the satellite view of the circuit, without an account
- LapViz app for Android and iOS: a GPS lap timer for the phone, with circuit detection, predictive delta and voice callouts
- LapViz Stopwatch for Android and iOS: several timekeepers time the laps by hand and share them live
- Open Live Timing: live timing for all motorsport, with an open API for the developers of timing systems
- Developers: a REST API, clients for Python and TypeScript, and the open source LapViz.Telemetry library for .NET (MIT)
Files and devices
LapViz reads the files of the loggers and apps as they are; the page of the supported formats gives the channels read from each one.
- AiM: the .xrk, .xrz and .drk files of the MyChron and the other AiM loggers
- Unipro (.uni), Alfano (archive of the Alfano software) and QStarz (.rcnx)
- RaceBox (.csv), RaceChrono (.rcz), TrackAddict (CSV), and the .vbo files of Racelogic VBOX and Harry's LapTimer
- GoPro videos with GPS (.mp4), GPX files and RaceRender exports
Price
Free today: the LapViz app, LapViz Stopwatch, the Studio, the 3D replay and the LapViz account cost nothing, and there is no paid plan.
- No credit card to create an account
- The Studio and the 3D replay work without an account
What LapViz does not do
Knowing the limits helps to choose the right tool.
- It does not configure a data logger: the software of its maker is still needed for that, Race Studio 3 for AiM for example
- No frequency analysis (FFT) and no PDF reports
- Laps are calculated from the GPS only on a circuit LapViz knows; a missing circuit can be submitted
- The GPS of a phone gives a first idea; for times to the hundredth, use an external 10 Hz Bluetooth GPS receiver
- LapViz Stopwatch times by hand: it does not replace the transponders of official races
- Not read today: the files of Starlane, Dragy and FastLap
